I read with interest your article and would like to add more to it. As a staff of company working as a frontliner, I would like to share my story as to what the actual situation is right now.

Company is like a fruit with nice skin but rotten inside. I have been working in the company for about two years now. Before this I was in UTP (University Technology of Petronas) and bonded to work with the company for 10 years.

Before I joined, I had an imagined that my life would be secure and safe, unlike an uncertain future if I had worked outside in the Oil and Gas field.

My first year of joining the company in 2008 was pleasant, it was a great journey but about a year and a half into it, it began to slide.

The company started to implement rubbish regulations which affected the morale of most of the staff…like imposing Forced Ranking among its executive staff.

The Forced Ranking was due to the fact that the government had taken a lot of dividends and was treating the company like its bank.

The effect of Forced Ranking in the company was devastating, like half annual increments, half bonuses, discrimination among peers which affected the self-esteem of the staff.

How would it feel to be labelled a ‘loser’ by using Forced Ranking rather than using the KPI.

If you ask young engineers now, I think more than half would say they’d rather quit and join another company. They don’t have a sense of ownership or belonging in the company anymore.

Bagaimana nasib beliau sekarang? Allah saje yang amat mengetahuinya.

  1. Fully agree… Harap2 beliau OK ler sekarang… Maklumlah nak keluar drp company pun ada kontrak 10 thn…

    • So.. sebelum nak terima offer from this company nie, fikir lah masak2 takutkan baru join 1 tahun dapat M3 (3L) pas tu nak kena bayar balik pulak duit biasiswa. Kalau dapat CTO kurang lah sakit beban nak bayar, kalau x ada menyesal tak sudah. Kalau survive 10 tahun pun walau pun tak payah bayar.. hati di dalam lg sakit.. So kalau nak join jugak company nie make sure position yg dapat tu ada demand outside. Tanam dlm fikiran saya keja sini sementara.. kontrk 2 tahun dan renewable… Dapatkan experience sebanyakan yg mungkin. Kalau naik pangkat / gred fikir betul2… lagi tinggi gred lagi tinggi peluang kena buang (kecuali lah VP) Jangan boros sgt. walau pun gaji byk. Takut tahun depan bungkus.. mana nak bayar duit sewa, duit pinjaman. Layan kontraktor sebaik nye sebab kot2 kena M3 boleh lah join kontraktor pulak heh heh. Sambil tu tengok2 lah offer kat luar. Middle East ke? Buat apa nak jaga sgt company yg tak menhargai staff nya… Macam madu diambil sepah dibuang. Company luar lagi menhargai staff.
      Sambil tu jaga kesihatan… Kalau hospitalized lama sangat pun mungkin kena buang..ini pun termasuk juga yg tiap2 tahun beranak dan cuti bersalin.
      Ingat juga kalau sekarang kita mungkin di dalam senarai teratas dlm staff ranking, tapi nasib akan datang kita tak tahu. Mungkin boss bertukar jenis yg. pesen kena ampu, boss yg corrupt (semakin menjadi sekarang … tak tahu apa nak jadi), position yg. tak kena dgn kita dan bermacam2 lagi.
      Semuga berjaya dan semuga Petronas maju jaya, kemegahan negara kita…..

      hye..

      after two years..

      when u stay inside long enough, u know la. i dont know about other companies, i guess all of them sama aja.is not what u know, its who u know.

      petronas with PPerformanceAppraisal. every year 10% number of staff in every department must be FORCE RANKED to M3. two years consecutively u got M3, got two options, must blah or improve in 6 months.

      its not that consequence of getting M3 bothers you, its how they force rank those 10%.

      because of that, the environment is not that comfortable at all (i dont say all will feel this way). Your fren may not trust you. Frens may not want to teach you too much. Ass kissers everywhere. Blaming culture. Too many non core job related initiatives KPIs that burden you. A huge urge to be visible to top management no matter in what way.

      i guess, there are certain people born and can adapt and survive in this type of environment. just think at once, are you this type? if not, contract staff only la. no need to be permanent. same also, insecure just like contract work maaa. benefits alaa, like you really use them, hehe.

  2. petronas is BN’s personal account. withdrawal can be made anytime & any amount..mana lg nk dpt duit, x kan nk kacau epf, tbg hj etc…kang pembangkang tau teruk la

    • Pembangkang pun tahu, kalau dia org memerintah pun akan dibuat perkara yg sama jugak.

      • mmg la pembangkang tahu pasal dividen petronas ni…tp dia x leh complain sbb itu mmg duit govt…maksud saya kalau nk guna epf & tbg hj, mmg x boleh la…pembangkang boleh jdkn isu…ttg isu pembangkang pun sama, of course le…dah namanye manusia..

    • Banyak dah staff mengeluh kpd CEO, EVP etc dlm perjumpaan pasal m3 ni, tapi jawapan mcm takde jawapan. Presiden silih berganti tp benda ni tetap di teruskan (coreect me if I’m wrong). Adakah this rubbish / stupid regulation terbit dari orang2 dalam. Things to ponder… Adakah masuk akai nak buang 1 Senior GM every year for every 10 SGM. Dahlah org tu naik atas potensi / development pas tu nak buang dgn polisi gila ni. Cuba bayangkan berapa ratus TP kena buang dan berapa banyak kerugian atas hilangnya kepakaran mereka yg bertahun2 develop dan dgn gaji yg hanya sama dgn new graduate kat ME? Bagaiman pulak eksekutif baru yg. belum ada experience tapi dah kena terminate tak sampai 1 /2 tahun? Org. tu baru nak dapatkan experience… Nasib baik N/E ada union kalau tidak degn mereka2 terima nasib yg sama. yg saya nampak kerja ni mungkin campur tangan luar .. yg sibuk dgn KPI & “prestasi diutamakan” dan tak tahu hal dalaman compani ni tp nak cuba masuk campur.. tambah2 lagi 2/3 tahun dulu profit compani ni agak merosot walau pun dia dapat berbillion2.
